About us

About us

At the end of 2008 a group of enthusiastic social touch players in Edinburgh decided to use the winter months to start some regular training. Incredibly, numerous evenings spent running around in the cold and the rain didn’t dampen our enthusiasm, and we decided to form a team so we could play in the local leagues as well as tournaments across the UK and further afield. Superhands was formed, and we played our first competitive game at the SixPack tournament in April 2009.

With players ranging from the complete novice all the way through to the seasoned internationalist, our emphasis was firmly on training hard, playing hard and having fun both on and off the pitch. The social side of the team was, and still is, viewed as being as important as the playing side of things. The team has a real multi-national feel to it with players from Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, France, New Zealand and Spain all involved.

In our inaugural season team Superhands have done ourselves proud, both in terms of our results and the reputation we have earned for being a good natured team that likes to party as well as play. Over the course of the season we have won the following:

Glasgow Beginners Tournament – Cup Winners
Newcastle Tournament - Best and fairest
Aberdeen Summer Tournament – Quaich Winners
Edinburgh Big Blue Summer League – Intermediate 2 Winners
Edinburgh Autumn League – Conference Winners
Aberdeen Autumn Tournament – Cup Runners-Up
Brussels Invitational Tournament – Plate Winners
Bahookie Touch Challenge – Cup Winners

In September 2009 the team took the decision, after much discussion, to expand the team and become a club, with a view to eventually being able to put out two mixed teams, with a men’s team and a women’s team drawn from these. A constitution was drawn up, the official posts filled and the search for new players began.
