Summary

Another month, another tournament…

Due to some of the members actually having a life outside the team, Superhands began the organisation of this tournament with limited numbers.

But not to be deterred, ‘touch’ moguls Peter and Kirsten were drafted in to help the team battle through the day. Also returning to help us out was Catriona, a D&W player, who we had poached in a previous league games to help us out. A big enough squad was now assembled and ready to take on Glasgow.

Setting off in four separate car loads on a not so promising weather day, Superhands travelled through for what would be their 5th tournament of the year.

After getting lost and driving round the grounds of the venue twice, Rob, Douglas and Lesley-Anne were surprisingly the first to arrive. Followed closely by the other team members we were all soon assembled, booted up and ready to commence our warm-up led by Captain for the day, Lesley-Anne.

The fixtures of the day meant we would be playing six games altogether, each at half and hour each. Quite an exhausting task. But the team worked hard throughout the day.
Having played Guerrilla Energy twice and only losing the first game to them, the team stepped up to the mark when they played them again and walked away with a brilliant come back win. Although tired, the team went on to secure more wins against the Wallace Monumentals , the Adders and the Leopards. The only unbeaten team were the Spiders who got a frustrating victory over the Superhands.

The day was eventful as Maddy made her debut score(s) as the newest Superhands member. With a strong wing attack and great communication, this was the day Maddy was ready to take some glory. Scoring several, beautiful, calculated trys throughout the day, she firmly planted her feet as an integral part of the Superhands crew.

Another valiant try scorer that day was D&W's stolen team member Catriona. Having played with Superhands at various matches in the Big Blue League, she showed her touch capacity to be outstanding as she supported the wing brilliantly and increased Superhands points throughout the day. It was after this tournament that she was made to sign a contract to become a fully fledged member of the team.

Other memorable events from this tournament was Doug managing to fall on his head (unsure if there was anyone else involved in this incident). Although promptly subbed and plastered up we’re convinced this has had lasting damage to his mental state.

As Superhands finished the day with a positive result of 7th place we all made our weary ways home with Rob heading to a family event and Freshy rushing Catriona back to Edinburgh in time for an engagement party. Lesley-Anne, Fran, Pierre and Maddy also headed back to Edinburgh to ‘host of the night’ Douglas’ house, where much needed pizza was consumed (the diets of true athletes, I may add).

A massive thanks go out to Kirsten and Peter for helping us out in the tournament and to Catriona for finally being persuaded to come to the dark side and join the Superhands on a permanent basis.

Another belter of a tournament was over and thoughts of the day soon led to talks about improving tactics for the next one. Overall, a blinder of a day.
