- The 2009 squad
Pierre “Coach” Joly – Pierre has played at international level for a number of years and is now passing on the benefits of this experience to the team. Having a coach of this calibre training the team is one of the reasons that Superhands have come together as a team.
Representative honours: Edinburgh, France Men’s and Mixed Open Team, Scotland Development Team, .
Refereeing: Level 2 (2006)
Coaching: Manager / Coach of Scotland Womens Open Team at World Cup in 2007, Superhands Head Coach since oct 2008, FIT Level 1 (2009).
Alison “Captain Ali” Morris – One of the more experienced members of the squad Ali was a popular choice as captain for our inaugural season and her enthusiasm and leadership have really brought the team together.
Representative honours: Edinburgh, Scotland Mixed Open
Rob “Holywood” Lee – One of the mainstays of Superhands, having played in more games than anyone other than Doug, Rob is pushing for Scotland honours next season. His speed and decision-making have made him a vital part of the team.
Representative honours: Edinburgh, Scotland Development Team
Refereeing: Level 1 (2009)
Lesley-Anne “Classy Bird” Thomson – Having only taken up touch in the autumn of 2008, Lesley-Anne has shown herself to be a quick study and is an integral part of the Superhands squad. Not only is Lesley-Anne pushing forward on the playing front, where she is currently in the Scotland training squad, she has also recently completed her Level 1 referee course.
Representative honours: Edinburgh, Scotland Development Team
Refereeing: Level 1 (2009)
Doug “Dump & Split” Cameron – Doug capped a fantastic first year in touch by representing Scotland in the Home Nations tournament this summer. Having played more games for Superhands than any other player, he has also captained the team in Ali’s absence on a number of occasions and has come home with the silverware each time.
Representative honours: Edinburgh, Scotland Development Team, Scotland Men’s Over 30s
Alison “Freshy” Freshwater – Freshy was the first of the new wave to join Superhands when we found ourselves in need of players halfway through the season. She quickly integrated herself into the team’s style of play and is now one of the mainstays of the team.
Representative honours: Edinburgh, Scotland Development Team
Refereeing: Level 1 (2009)
Coaching: Superhands Assistant Coach (2009-10)
David "The Unit" Bartlett - With commitment to the team that is second to none, Dave has successfully adapted his ball skills originally gained in rugby union to become a major driving force behind the team both on and off the field. His energy and enthusiasm coupled with his straight-to-the-point approach have played a key part in the SuperHands' achievements to date. If he could only spin pass properly off his right hand...
Eleanor "Inappropriate" Sim – Eleanor joined Superhands late in the season but her rugby background and willingness to learn has seen her become a valuable member of the squad.
Representative honours: Edinburgh, Scotland Development Team
Dunkan “Dummy” Armstrong – the granddaddy of Superhands, Dunkan has played touch since the dawn of time. His experience has proved invaluable throughout the season and his attitude to training is like no others!
Representative honours: Scotland Men’s Over 35s
Colin “Maybe aye, maybe no” McLean – Colin’s speed and agility have made him a valuable asset for the Superhands team and one of the team’s leading try scorers. He is also one of the more experienced referees in the squad.
Representative honours: Scotland Development Team
Refereeing: Level 1 (2009)
Jo "Vin blanc" Harden – one of the latest additions to the squad Jo has proved herself a good addition when she won the Superhands players’ MVP at the inaugural Bahookie Touch Challenge.
Francisco “Doc” Diaz – our resident GP, Fran not only brings experience to the team but an on-the-spot diagnosis of any injuries players pick up during matches. He’s been with the team from the beginning and was one of the driving forces behind the team being formed.
Refereeing: Level 1 (2009)
Maddy "Laugh-a-lot" Graham – poached from the D&W work team during the Summer League, Maddy’s natural athleticism and fitness have helped her to quickly gel with the rest of the squad. She missed out on representative honours this season due to a clash of schedules but will surely force her way into the selection process over the coming season.
Narinder “Sponsorship” Bansal – one of the founding members of Superhands, Narinder’s speed and fitness make her an excellent squad member. Her defensive skills have come to the rescue of the team on a number of occasions and she can be relied upon to tell everyone who they are marking.
Felicity “Safe hands” Shaw – our resident kiwi, Flis joined Superhands and quickly earned her nickname following a Glasgow tournament played in horrendous conditions during which she never once dropped the ball. A training injury has led to her filling the role of team mascot and official photographer in the latter part of the season. Sadly she will be leaving to return to New Zealand, hopefully to start the Superhands NZ franchise!
Jenny “Hot in here” Jenkins – Jenny’s commitment to the cause is such that she has changed her work schedule so that she can train and play with the team; this helped her to become a scoring machine in the final of the Brussels competition where she bagged a hat-trick.
Catriona “Defector” Weir – another to join us from the D&W work team, Catriona was part of the team that went to Brussels as well as taking part in several of the leagues. Unfortunately she has, due to work, since defected to Glasgow Lions!
Olivier "Frenchy" Cordin- Making himself available from the very start, Olivier has been the Superhands go-to-guy when the team found itself struggling to get numbers for tournaments. His speed and experience have been instrumental in several important league fixture victories throughout the year, particularly towards the end of the season.
